His hands were so strong
And large as can be
His strength and his courage
Yes every one could see
But now he’s a shell
Of the man that he was
And Alzheimer’s disease, is the cause, don’t you see
This man who was vibrant
Who could do anything
Now knows no one, not eve his son
If I only could see
Yes see that he knew me
With a twinkle of eye
But now just blank stares meet me
As I look in his eyes
Oh where is the father
The man that I see
Is no not the father
That did once carry me
Oh no he’s a stranger
And I am, so to him
No laughter or any jokes
Anymore come from him
You just do not know
What it does when your dad
Who was once to me a giant
Is shriveled, it’s so sad
That man that I knew
Yes has long gone away
And the shell that is left
Just exists every day
Oh why did this happen
Oh why must this be
Why can’t my dear father
Be the man that I see
