This is not a poem but a reflection.
\nI don’t know if anyone has experienced this.
\nI pray no one really ever has to.
\nI saw the breath of life leave my dad.
\nMy dad had always been a hard worker all his life
\nHe worked two or three jobs all his life
\nHe also always found the time to help others
\nHe was a giver and not taker
\nHe had a massive heart attack at age 79
\nonly a few weeks before his 80 birthday
\nHe was taken to a hospital only a few
\nminutes from where I worked
\nHe was put into a coma so he would not
\nremove life support
\nEach time I went to see him all I could do
\nwas talk to him with no response
\nAt the end of the week I went to
\nintensive care to see him
\nWhen I entered the nurse said
\nwe took him off support
\nWhich I thought was good
\nIn the next breath she said
\nHe has about 1\/2 hour to live
\nYou can imagine all the thoughts
\nthat went through my mind as I
\nsat there seeing his breathing lessen
\nand his blood pressure dropping
\nHis pastor was there also and said
\nthat my dad asked that the 23 rd Psalm
\nbe red and after the last verse
\nHe stopped breathing
\nThe feelings that he would not have had
\nany family with him at death and I was
\nable to be there gave me some comfort
\nand I hope him also
\ndad is gone and my heart hurts
\nbut I am glad I was able to be with him at death<\/p>\n
I saw a TV show tonight where a woman had to decide
\nto have her mom taken off life support and stay till
\nshe died.-Needless to say what that did to me
\nMade me write this<\/p>\n
