I wish I knew my father
\nAs other’s know him to be
\nMy father just did rarely
\nYes spend some time with me
\nI hear him tell some stories
\nAbout him I never knew
\nThe memories I have of him
\nAre really oh so few
\nHe tells my son of times when he
\nDid things when he grew up
\nAnd they are then the very first time
\nI knew of his youth myself
\nThere is so much I don’t know about him
\nAbout when he was a boy
\nAnd now I’m 52 it hurts
\nAnd makes me under joyed
\nThere has always been a distance
\nAnd probably it will never be
\nI will only learn piece’s of his life
\nBefore he dies, I’ll see
\nGod do not make me like him
\nHelp me to share with my son
\nAbout my growing up through life
\nSo when he is my age he won’t run
\nWon’t run and hide cause he feels bad
\nOf things about me he doesn’t know
\nPlease help me share things yes with him
\nOh yes so he will know
\nWill know about me first hand
\nNot from stories he may hear
\nYes stories about me when I am gone
\nYes God help me to make it clear
\nHis dad did things to make him proud
\nYes God help him to know
\nYes know so much about his dad
