Under the spreading chestnut tree
\nThe huge bulldozer stands
\nThe demolition team awaits
\nTo remove it where it stands
\nThis tree a hundred years ago
\nWas planted from a blowing seed
\nAnd this fine tree stood fine until
\nThe developer conceived
\nYes he conceived a center where
\nAll shopping could be done
\nAnd now this tree must be destroyed
\nSo shoppers can have fun
\nNo thought’s have been given
\nOf memories, a hundred years have made
\nHow many picnics and pictures taken
\nIn front of this old tree we want saved
\nAnd memories of proposals made
\nBeneath this fine old tree
\nNo the dozer’s waiting to bring it down
\nBut a prostest has been made you see
\nTo save this tree who’s served this town
\nWith memories that it made
\nSo pray my friend we’ll find a way
\nSo this fine tree will be saved<\/p>\n
This is not really about any specific tree
\nit just came to mind when I saw a stately
\nold tree being cut down.<\/p>\n
