I always gave a fruitcake
To my stepmother every year
And never once did she get the hint
That I never held her dear
I never could get close to her
Another family yes she had
Inside a little it really did
Oh yes made me feel bad
So I stopped it oh yes years ago
But never closer did we become
And since my dad yes passed away
Absolutely no contact has come from
At least she has other family
So no loss is there if not we
Have come closer and I guess never we’ll be
Like a family t’will never be
