We Are Still Here

When we were kids
We had no helmets to wear
When we skated, rode bikes
We are still here
We played at playgrounds with no rubber mats under the swings and sliding boards
We are still here
When we played sports we did not have knee pads elbow pads or much protective gear
We are still here
We did not have a slew of vaccination shots growing up
We are still here
We took unrefrigerated sandwiches for lunch
We are still here
We walked to school and downtown and mostly everywhere
We are still here
I know that all these things are designed to protect us
Probably today or tomorrow, I will have a tree fall on my head and
I won’t be here
