I Can’t Remember

Oh Dad I can’t remember
You sitting down with me
And sharing thoughts about your youth
And how YOU came to be
By that I mean where your values grew
Who taught them to you and how
You came to be the loving person
You always were and now
When you have time to do it
I would really like you to say
Yes say the things about how you
Became the YOU, you are today
Please write down thoughts about your life
Things that you want to say
Yes say to me and to my son
I wish you would today
Today yes start a journal
It’s not too late to do
To write things down about your life
And things you’d change or do
Or maybe you’d leave things just the same
And not change, not one thing
Yes Dad, I like to know about
Your life before God brings
Yes brings you home
To be with him
Please let your gift to me
Yes gift for yes my 53rd
My coming birthday bring
Yes bring this journal I give to you
If you fill these pages I’ll bring
Yes bring another, and another until
They are filled with all the things
Yes things you maybe did want to say
But never had the chance
Yes Dad, I like to know more about you
This book will give you the chance

Words from the poet. Yesterday was Father’s Day and I went to see my father with my son. He told a story to my son, which I wished he had told me when I was young. I felt cheated and a little envious. I also wrote a poem before this I Wish I Knew My Father. I have resolved to send this to my Dad and a journal to help make up for lost stories. Pray he uses it.
