I want to go back
To when people did care
I want to go back
Before it wasn’t a dare
A dare that something awful
Would happen if you did
Did not lock your doors
Oh yes when I was a kid
You did not have to worry
To send your child off to school
Or that you would get shot
Walking in like a fool
Yes into a dark street
Or an alley at dark
Oh no when I was a kid
You did not have to have street smarts
Yes I want to go back
Yes when neighbors did care
And they checked up on you
If you did not call them and share
Yes I want to go back
But I know and am aware
That the world that I knew
Oh yes will not be there
But maybe we each
Can show love and can teach
And much better we’ll care
If we take love and share
We must yes start at home
And then maybe this poem
Will help us all try to be
Yes much better, we’ll see
